Springfield Climate Justice Coalition

Since 2014, the Springfield Climate Justice Coalition (SCJC) has united organizations across the city to confront climate change and environmental injustice head-on. Born out of deep concern for our planet and the public health of Springfield’s most impacted residents, SCJC brings together a broad and diverse alliance—community groups, civic and social justice organizations, public health advocates, faith-based institutions, and local businesses—committed to building a healthier, more equitable future.

Our coalition envisions a Springfield where every resident can breathe clean air, where climate resilience is prioritized, and where local solutions reflect the voices of those most affected. Together, we’ve achieved major victories, including securing a commitment from Columbia Gas (Now Eversource) to repair more than 500 gas leaks in Springfield and pushing the City to adopt and implement a comprehensive Climate Action and Resiliency Plan.

We believe that true environmental justice starts at the local level—and that our collective power can transform systems.
